The Easter Rapist

[printprofilepic]

You know this is probably transportation for the happiest family in the world. I’m more inclined to believe some fanatic of both John Wayne Gacy and Donnie Darko drives this around. Even if the person behind the wheel isn’t some horror movie waiting to happen, the vehicle is certainly a real-life nightmare. The scariest part is that they were really hauling ass. I had to work to get these two shots.

I don’t care if you care, I like GMT400 trucks.

Saw this leaving my dad’s house. My daily driver – which I affectionately refer to as the “Valkyrie” (only in my own head, because I’m not a tool) – is a 1996 C2500 2WD ex-cab light duty. 235hp 5.0L V8, 4L60-E, and 3.73:1 14 bolt SF rear. Lowered 3″/4″. I love the GMT400 and it’s bed-less platform mates. That being said, this is one of the best looking GMT400’s I’ve seen in a while and I’d trade trucks with the owner in a second. Yeah, I guess to the casual observer it’s nothing special, but to me that’s what makes it so special. It doesn’t have 24″ rims and some silly paint job. It’s just a nice looking, extremely low fullsize. Bask in it’s modest and subtle glory.

Arizona Forestry Dispatch Office

While driving by the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s forest fire dispatch office, Mike and I happened to spot some old work trucks that they had lined up off to the side. The most notable vehicle is the Jeep Gladiator convertible that was commissioned for use in Jerome. Also the fire extinguisher on one of the trucks expired in 1980! When we asked the gentleman that chaperoned us to the vehicles what their intent for storing them here was, he didn’t know. He did mention that they’re likely up for auction. There’s some really interesting trucks in the group and some unnamed half stripped s195 Mustang for some reason. Check it out in the gallery below! Continue reading

White-out

I think understand the semantics of making everything on your car black. You want the car to look sinister, evil or even “stealth” which is what the term originally was called when you could buy those pre-tinted light covers from companies for your Mustang or Durango. Even the term for the style prevalent among it’s younger audience describes it’s aesthetic function: Murdered out.

On the other hand, it looks incredibly stupid, and it’s often overdone. The ignorance behind darkening lights designed for safety is hilariously ironic, and it usually renders the car seemingly shapeless in all but the best lighting conditions.

Despite all of that, I think this takes the idea and moves it up into a whole new level of tastelessness and stupidity:

Bonus points for the truck reeking of paint from the truck just getting the treatment. This Bro marches to the beat of a different Kottonmouth Kings song.

SW Modlites #21

Found at a hotel not far from where we found Isaac Zaragoza’s #3z X-mod (Who took the checkered flag in his class at the Tribute to Indy race last night at Canyon Speedway, bringing him from 14th to 10th overall in points in the X-Mod class) I spotted this southwest modlite car. As you can see it’s #21 driven by Jimmy Terstriep. He placed 13th overall in his class last night. Better luck next time, Jimmy.

#3z X-Mod in North Phoenix

I must say that I’m guilty of not following local racing. I find myself getting more and more into racing as I get older and the local Speedway is beginning to look enticing. Today I found an X-Mod driven by Isaac Zaragoza. From what I’ve been able to research, he was able to pull a strong string of wins together in the 2010 season. The only evidence found of him for 2011 is of him running his #3z X-mod you see here as a pace car for a local karting event. He was listed as a “former racer”.

Judging by the spare tires on the trailer, the fuel cans in the bed of the truck and the engine stand next to the fuel, He’s likely going to be racing tonight at Canyon Speedway’s 1st Annual Salute to Indy, which is located only a few miles from the hotel these pictures were taken at. According to info found on Canyon Speedways page, he finished 3rd last night in his class and is at 14th overall in points for the season. Good luck Mr. Zaragoza!
