The World Needs More Vintage 4×4’s

[printprofilepic]

This 59-60 F-100 is exactly what I love seeing when it comes to 4WD pick-up trucks. It’s old but well taken care of, and it gets used. It doesn’t have over-the-top tires, a giant lift or some crowd-pleasing diesel conversion. Just a good old-fashioned gasoline-powered 4×4. Continue reading

1980-82 VW Rabbit Oettinger

I was a little confused when I first spotted this MK1 Rabbit. Was this a real Oettinger-tuned GTi 16S, somehow imported from France? As I got closer I noticed the lack of badging, the white deck on the hatch and the body cladding was a little off. My Volkswagen noob-status had betrayed me. This is just one of the lesser-versions of the USDM VW Rabbit with an Oettinger body kit. A “Malibuized” creation by former Chevy engineer James McLernon. Coincidentally enough, it foreshadows a tactic that the German V-dubbers are trying again, in the opposition of just about every other automaker today. Continue reading

Snowflake Wheels and Rainbow Paint

[printprofilepic]

Is this the look for mini trucks nowadays? That paint didn’t even look good on the Cobra it came from, and those wheels look dumb on anything that’s not a holiday-themed parade float. What happened to all the hardbodies with the crooked plates in the tailgate and Escalade wheels? Those required some amount of brain power and skill to cobble together, which is at least basic hotrodding. Continue reading

It’s Still 2003, Somewhere

[printprofilepic]

Apparently this far into our modern futuristic world they still sell hair gel, some men still use bleach only for the ends of said gelled hair, and I’m pretty sure Wal-Mart still stocks those stupid Gilligan hats, somewhere. This Miata is for that person. The person that thinks that Disturbed is the most modern form of aggressive music, and that phones with color displays are quite fancy. Continue reading

Terrorize the Track and the Streets: Ford’s 1984 SVO Mustang

The other day I saw this going south on the I-17. Now to most people, this is just another shitbox from the 80’s. If we refine that scope a little more and target your average car enthusiast, he’ll tell you it’s a Mustang or maybe a “five point-oh” (if he wears black socks) Now let’s zoom in a little more. To your Mustang fanatic, or even 80’s car fanatic, he’ll tell you that this is the euro-stomping, SVO Ford Mustang. Continue reading

Mr. Toyoda, Tone It Up!

I guess now that Toyota has a sports car with a Subaru engine and a penchant for whipping around the corners doriftu-style, this post may seem irrelevant to most fan boys. Regardless of that (and the Vader-face GS Lexus) I still must say that this Corolla bearing the “Tone It Up” [link included to explain origin, Ed.] sticker seems to me to be begging it’s manufacturer to heed it’s adhesive-vinyl-based demands. Continue reading
