SEMA 2012: 1969 Yenko Camaro
When I was walking through SEMA, this 1969 Yenko Camaro (apparently owned by Reggie Jackson) was just minding it’s own business at the Classic Industries booth. I did not see it, and I blame that not on myself, but on the absolute saturation of first and fifth generation Camaros there. FFT: Pulling the 455 Top End
Amidst all of the 2012 SEMA hubbub, I bring you the latest installment on my 455 Oldsmobile-powered 1965 C-10, better known as: The Futuramic Farm Truck.
As you know this time of year is not a productive in terms of free hours to work or money to spend. I’ve been putting off breaking out the impact gun and yanking the top end on the 455 because I spun it over and checked the oil when I traded it for my boat anchor smog-era 350. I had some free time between trees, turkeys and all that other stuff to get a little bit done, so this is what I chose to do. Like my piece on the rear suspension for my daily driver: Valkyrie, I’m going to be doing this article in a captioned picture style to illustrate what was going on as I did it. SEMA 2012: Chevrolet 2014 LT1 V8 Engine
You may have heard that Chevrolet will be unveiling the new seventh-generation Corvette in 2014. What you may not have heard is that it will also be packing an all-new powerplant: the LT1.
We got a sneak preview of the new engine at SEMA 2012. Chevrolet had a completed engine on a stand as well as a display showing each of the engine’s internals. Before we go into what’s new, I’d like to take a moment to talk about the history of the LT1 name.
Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Special Edition
It’s often been said that adults are just kids with more expensive toys. That’s never been more true than with the Hot Wheels Special Edition Chevrolet Camaro. Starting next year, this will be a big toy that you can park in your driveway.
The Hot Wheels Camaro debuted as a concept vehicle at SEMA 2011. Now, it will officially go on sale to the public as a special package from January through June of 2013. Shown here is the final production version of the car.
SEMA 2012: Chevrolet 2012 COPO Camaro
The 1960s were unquestionably the golden era of muscle cars. Federal Crash Test Standards and the Oil Crisis of 1973 had not yet rained on everyone’s parade, and the Big 3 American automakers (Ford, GM, and Chrysler) were engaged in a horsepower war with each company trying to one-up each other.
During this time car manufacturers were basically selling full-on race cars to the public. The Plymouth Hemi Cuda, Dodge Charger R/T, Plymouth Superbird, Pontiac GTO “Judge”, Oldsmobile 442, Camaro ZL1/Z-28/SS, Shelby GT500KR, and the Ford Torino Talladega all packed monsterous engines that were often underrated in terms of true power output.
One muscle car from this era that is not often mentioned is the Central Office Production Order Camaro, or “COPO Camaro.”
