I hope someone’s first day in America involves walking somewhere and being intentionally splashed with mud by this truck as it streaks by pumping out equal parts soot, train horn, and Alan Jackson.
I can’t think of a much better initiation into our culture than that.
Back in 2005, the Ford Motor Company wanted to do something special to celebrate their 100th anniversary. What they did was come out with a special, limited-production car called the Ford GT. This mid-engined supercar was inspired by Ford’s famous GT40 racing cars from the 1960s.
The Ford GT has a supercharged V8 engine that makes a whopping 550 horsepower! Aside from a roll cage, this thing is basically a street-legal racing car. Like all good things, the Ford GT was only around for a limited time. After two years and 4,000 vehicles, Ford ended production of their high performance supercar.
I spotted this out in Scottsdale a few weeks ago. At first, I thought it was an XP8, which was the only Saleen Explorer I knew about. When I made it to the rear of the vehicle, I noticed it said “XP6” on it.
Back in the 1980’s Honda determined that if they were going to have a luxury division (Acura) they would need a ‘full size’ car to compete. With the midsized Accord as their only option for badge engineering they looked elsewhere. They ended up collaborating with the British company Rover. I saw this thing pulling into Safeway and I knew I had to get out of the car and get some pictures. In case you don’t know, it’s a Citroen 2CV, and it’s the first one I’ve actually seen in person.
They were built from 1948 to 1990, which would be pretty impressive if VW’s Beetle didn’t shit all over it in terms of longevity. And everything else too, really. Continue reading →
