1981-Mercury-Cougar-XR7-01-whiteThe Mercury Cougar had a very strange 5th generation.  Only being around for the 1980-1982 model years it was short lived but included a sedan and for a its last year a wagon (spotted one a while back).  The car as a whole along with the 94hp I6 six on this XR7 pleased no one.  Ford knew this and abandoned the whole situation by dumping this setup for another design also on the Fox platform.  The next Cougars and Thunderbirds launched the Ford aero models. 1986 Zimmer Golden Spirit Neoclassic Car

zimmer-golden-spirit-frontHaving written about nearly every other type of neoclassic car, I was excited to see my first Zimmer at the 2015 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. Like other neoclassic cars, the Zimmer combines the reliability of a modern, fuel-injected powertrain with classic styling. The prominent waterfall grille, exposed headlamps, full-length running boards, and bustleback style rear end are all design characteristics of pre-war American cars.

While there have been many companies that produced cars in this style, Zimmer was one of the most successful. Founded in Florida, the company built over 1,500 cars during their peak years of 1978-1988.

1988 Ford Mustang GT ‘Hypersilver’

If you’ve picked up any kind of car magazine at all in the past year, you’ve probably caught a glimpse of this 1988 Ford Mustang nicknamed “Hypersilver.” The full build has been documented in Car Craft, Hot Rod Magazine, Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, and many other magazines made for guys with grease under their fingernails. It was neat to see the completed car in person at the Source Interlink booth at SEMA 2013!

The idea for this car was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords. The magazine’s technical editor, Mark Christ, headed up the build. Things started coming together at the Muscle Mustangs office in Florida. One article I read said that the car went from a shell to completed in just 4 weeks…an amazingly short time for a build like this!

Finally For Sale, The 86 Testarossa I Spotted Last Year (Craigslist)

While browsing Craigslist for Corvettes under $12,000 (there are quite a few C5’s) I happened to stumble across an old acquaintance.  It’s the oddball Testarossa inspired Corvette (or maybe Pontiac Grand Am?) that I spotted rolling around the streets about a year ago.  I never thought I would see it again, but here it is in all of it’s glory for only $5500.  If you’re looking to get into the Ferrari game this is a cheap start.
